Mounts up easy and install was simple enough. Main/only issue for me.... I rewired my whole boat and added electronics including this compass. As part of the nav light circuit I wired the compass into that so it lights up when I turn the nav lights on. Well where the cord on the compass goes down and underneath the unit the wires had been kinked and were shorted. Either from the factory or from shipping? Since this was a new/full rewire it took some time to find the short that was blowing my nav light fuses. Pain in the a$# and the wires are tiny but I was able to fix itThis was a replacement compass for my 30 year old boat and was same brand and style as originalBought a used boat with a bad compass. This model of Ritchie compasses were posted to be a replacement for the original Danforth. Had to chisel out a small piece of dashboard, to allow fora screw, but it fits fine and does the job. Have only had it for two boatings, but the GPS unit went out, and we had to reply on the compass. Glad we bought it.I replaced a worn out compass and the new one is a perfect replacement and a great value. I anticipate decades of service.I bought this for my boat. The inside works all of the time, but the outside is intermittent. Granted, I did lose a screw from the battery cover which may effect it. But I would buy it again for the price if needed.Great value...Bought for my 1981 Sovereign 17 fractional sloop. I angusihed over a bulkhead mout and this flush mount. Tiller steering made it a hard choice. The instrument arrived before time and is all I had hoped for. I will mount it in a removeable box affair between the cockpit seats so it will be on center line, and can be removed for security. This instrument has mag dampers, is adjustable has sun shield. and is lit. Cannot beat the price for this fine instrument.Took three times to get one without a leak, while the returns process took time (to send back and receive a new one) it was very easy. Once I got a nondefective one, it was been great. After a year and a half, big air bubble in this compass. I have a Danforth in my other boat that came new with the boat in 2005 and it still looks and functions as new. Unfortunately, if you research these small marine compasses, you find this company bought out the good brand(s) and gives you far lesser quality for more money plus these cannot be refilled or rebuilt. I guess that's just the way a lot of things are now. Sad.
