Marni Nixon's name has been known to me for years, but in a very limited way -- I knew she was the singing voice of Deborah Kerr in THE KING AND I, Natalie Wood in WEST SIDE STORY and Audrey Hepburn in MY FAIR LADY. I also knew she appeared onscreen as Sister Sophia in THE SOUND OF MUSIC. Beyond that, I knew nothing. Thus I figured this book would bore me to tears once I'd passed those portions of her life. Wrong! The woman has led a fascinating life, leading up to and following that period when she was "The Ghostess with the Mostes'," as someone dubbed her. True, there was a lot in the beginning about her grandparents and parents and early childhood that was perhaps less than absorbing. . .at least to me. But once she reached the point of doing extra work in films and then into the ghosting, and everything since, my interest never lessened. She's one of those people that I wish I could meet. . .and one who I wish could go on forever. A very enjoyable read from/by a woman who deserves to be better known!
